THE WHITTIER MILL VILLAGE TOUR OF HOMES
WAS HELD SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th (1:00-5:00)
at the First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee, 1950 Bolton Rd. (on the corner of Bolton Rd. and Parrott Ave ). Twelve houses were on tour this year, nine of them historic and three built in the last several years under historic guidelines. The Tour was in conjunction with Homecoming at the Chattahoochee Baptist Church so we had some original residents (from half a century ago) come back and reminisce with the current residents.
Enjoy pictures from the Tour below:
Volunteers make it happen! Thanks to Serena Bellew, Susan Deisenroth, Shelley Culp, Patric Boles, Veronica Cooper and Don Rooney for organizing and executing this year's Tour! |

A little history…
Thanks to a group of neighbors in 1994 who saw the value in preserving this historically significant Village, Whittier Mill Village is one of 14 Historic and Landmark Districts protected through local zoning and overlays and the City of Atlanta . Whittier Mill is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic designation and architectural preservation has maintained a sense of place and has bolstered the character, community, and consistent visual appeal of Whittier Mill Village . Whittier Mill and its surrounding village were established in 1895 and is a prime example of a post Civil War, southern mill and attached village. Although only a few remnants of the actual mill itself remain in the neighborhood park, the housing built for mill "operatives" stands largely intact, providing an excellent view of life in a typical mill village of turn-of-the-century Atlanta .
